Just read an article in The Big Issue by Morganna Magee about her encounter with the legendary documentary photographer Mary Ellen Mark. The final paragraphs of her article nailed her experience and my admiration for Mark. “Now, when I look at Mark’s own photographs, I see beyond the composition and framing. I see people looking back past the camera to the woman who cared enough to take an interest in them.”
This statement so much sums up my own reactions to Mark’s work.
